Digital ambassadors educate on e-safety

5th January 2023During the recent football World Cup, pupils in Forms III-VI were invited to enter a competition to see how many different countries are represented in England’s Premiere League and Women’s Super League.

Persuasive writing by FV
2nd December 2022Our FV pupils have been practising their persuasive writing skills, so they have put their talent to good use by writing letters to encourage parents to donate to Colchester Foodbank.

U9 Cricket Champions!
24th June 2022An excellent performance by the U9 cricket team saw them win the Colchester District Rapid Fire Cricket tournament. This was everyone's first taste of competitive cricket and they grew in confidence game by game. Well done everyone!

15th June 2022How lucky we were to have such lovely weather for yesterday’s Sports Day. The children took part in a variety of races, many of which points are awarded for our Ludorum trophies, both of which were won by Form VI pupils this year.

Jubilee Tea Party

19th May 2022FI & FII pupils had a wonderful day out at Boydells Dairy Farm yesterday. It was a very hands-on experience for the children as they helped to milk the cows, bottle feed the lambs and go in the cage with the chickens.

Bronze at the U11 SSP Tag Rugby Tournament
2nd February 2022Our U11 Rugby team was excited to play on the Colchester RFC 4G pitch at the Northern Gateway Sports Park yesterday during the annual District U11 Tag Rugby tournament, where they took third place.

6th July 2021Form IV pupils were very lucky to have dry weather for their trip to Mountfitchet Castle last week. The children were keen to explore the reconstructed houses and view the scenes, each depicting aspects of a bygone lifestyle.

Art Week - Pointillism
25th June 2021Last week, pupils throughout the school investigated the technique of Pointillism for Art Week. True to the philosophy of the movement, they produced colourful pictures by using dots of the three primary colours so that seen from a distance a variety of secondary colours can be seen.

Plants boost pupils' wellbeing
8th February 2021Last year’s Eco Warriors started a project of collecting empty sweetcorn and baked bean cans and upcycling them. The tins have now all been painted and decorated and filled with plants. The plants will elevate the oxygen levels in classrooms while also contributing to children’s mental wellbeing.

The Colour Monster
24th September 2020As part of Global Be Well week at Oxford House School, pupils in some year groups listened to the story of The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. The story helps children recognise different emotions they may be feeling at home or in school.

Forest School fun for Nursery II
24th September 2020Our Nursery II children enjoyed their very first Forest School session today. They made hedgehogs from pinecones, designed forest school maps and followed a recipe to make Autumn soup using conkers and leaves. The children showed off their listening skills and practised giving instructions.

Writing instructions in FIII
29th June 2020During our Olympics-themed week, Form III pupils were asked to make an Olympic torch. The children also wrote a set of instructions explaining how they had made their torches. The children created some fantastic torches.

FIII pupils make bird seed cake
29th June 2020To support their science work on plants and to introduce a cross-curricular link with Literacy, Form III pupils children made some Bird Seed Cake. They then placed it in the garden for the birds and wrote a set of instructions explaining how they had made it.

Form IV 'Harkhuf - The First Explorer'
12th May 2020Form IV began their journey in Ancient Egypt by reading the book Harkhuf – The First Explorer. This wonderful adventure was written by Laura Marshall who was herself once a Form IV pupil studying Ancient Egypt. We have been very privileged to have been sent a message from the author herself recorded especially for our pupils.

Form VI pupils celebrate 11+ success
10th March 2020Monday 2nd March 2020 was National Offer Day, when thousands of parents across Essex found out which secondary school their child has been offered. All of our Form VI pupils were delighted with their secondary school offers, which included 10 offers of places at the Colchester grammar schools.

Eco Warriors recycle school waste
10th March 2020Our Eco-Warriors have set up new recycling bins for school waste. Wrappers, packaging, rubber gloves and pens will from now on be taken to a local company for recycling, helping us to contribute towards the establishment of a healthy and sustainable environment.

6th March 2020We had fun dressing up today to celebrate our love of reading for World Book Day. Children and staff looked fantastic dressed as their favourite book characters. Everybody enjoyed this celebration of reading and we are all inspired to read even more!

Fun at Forest school
26th February 2020Our Reception children enjoyed their very first Forest School session today. They used pots and pans to make mud cakes, climbed on ropes and searched for wood elves. The children showed off their listening skills and practised giving instructions.

Success at the Cross Country Championships
6th February 2020Boys and girls from Forms Forms III to VI competed against children from schools all across Colchester in the Cross Country Championship. We are especially proud of Kaven who was awarded bronze for coming 3rd and of Amelia who came 7th. Well done to all!

Happy Chinese New Year!
27th January 2020Today we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. Our pupils in NI created a number line based around the Chinese New Year story and the signs of the Zodiac and NII pupils made Chinese lanterns. Reception pupils learnt about Chinese food and even had a go at tasting sweet and sour noodles. Happy Chinese New Year!

Cognita Global Be Well Day
27th September 2019Today our pupils joined over 45,000 children and young people around the world to draw attention to the vital role of mental wellbeing in education. The mental health and wellbeing of young people is now one of the most pressing issues of our times and we spent the day focusing on it to mark ‘Global Be Well Day’, a worldwide event led by Cognita.

12th July 2019Forms V and VI had a fabulous day visiting the Tower of London this week. They explored the Tower, looking at the armour, weapons and the Crown Jewels and met people from the 17th century.

10th July 2019On Tuesday, Form II spent a wonderful day at Colchester Castle. They enjoyed a tour of the museum and dungeons, built a Celtic roundhouse and a Roman villa and dressed up as Celtic characters.

Residential Trip to How Hill 2019

Swimming Gala 2019
29th March 2019Congratulations to our Swimming Gala winners! The Martin’s Girls Cup was won by Gabi in FVI while Quentin in FV took the Spendlove Boys Cup. Well done also to all the children for competing and thank you to all those parents who came along to support the pupils.

Form I History Trip
27th March 2019We had wonderful weather on Tuesday for our trip to Colchester Natural History Museum. We enjoyed our mid-morning snack and lunch in the sunshine at Castle Park before seeing many wondrous artefacts and the Natural History Museum and the toy gallery at the Hollytrees Museum.

World Book Day 2019
8th March 2019We had fun dressing up today to celebrate our love of reading for World Book Day. Children and staff looked fantastic dressed as their favourite book characters. Everybody enjoyed this celebration of reading and we are all inspired to read even more!

Form VI pupils celebrate secondary school offers
4th March 2019Friday 1st March 2019 was National Offer Day, when thousands of parents across Essex found out which secondary school their child has been offered. All of our Form VI pupils were delighted with their secondary school offers, which included 11 offers of places at the Colchester grammar schools. We are very proud of all of our Form VI pupils and would like to congratulate each and every one of them.

Early Years 'Stay and Play' sessions

Form VI Shadow Theatre Performance

Children In Need 2018
16th November 2018Today, the children joined in with the rest of the country to raise money for Children in Need. They participated in a non-uniform day and came in to school in spotty outfits, bright yellow onesies and Pudsey jumpers.

A visit from Colchester Royal Grammar School

Form VI Ambassadors
13th November 2018Over the last couple of weeks, Form VI pupils have been going through a selection process to become Form VI Ambassadors. After careful consideration and thorough interviews conducted by our headteacher Mrs Leyshon, six ambassadors have been appointed. They will support our School Captains and regularly take on an active role during school assemblies.

Reception class Teddy Bears picnic

The Tudors
12th July 2017On Tuesday 11th July, Forms V and VI were transported back in time and the school hall at Oxford House became the Great Hall of the Court of Henry VIII in 1535. Visiting Author - James Campbell
3rd July 2017Last Tuesday, as a special reward with funds raised from the second hand uniform sales, the children welcomed James Campbell, author of the 'Boyface' series into school. 23rd June 2017On Monday 19th June Form VI arrived to Oxford House dressed in blue, red and white clothing in honour of our French themed day, including "berets et moustaches"!
